Trending Article

(Seremban, August 2) The Negeri Sembilan state election result 2026 produced a decisive two-thirds majority for BN and PN, and by 12.45am on August 2, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid had already visited the royal palace to submit three names from BN for the position of Menteri Besar. Speaking to reporters as he left the Istana Besar, Zahid confirmed the submissions and said the final decision rested entirely with Negeri Sembilan’s ruler Tuanku Muhriz, who would communicate the choice through a palace announcement.

BN-PN Win Combined Majority

The final Negeri Sembilan state election result 2026 gave BN 18 seats — UMNO winning all 16 of its contests and MCA taking N1 Gemencheh and N36 Lobak — and PN seven seats, with PAS winning four and Gerakan Tanah Air three. The 25-seat combined total comfortably exceeded the 19-seat governing threshold and gave both parties a two-thirds majority for the new state government.

Pakatan Harapan Wins Only 11 Seats

Pakatan Harapan was reduced to 11 seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election result 2026. The night’s two biggest individual losses were DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, beaten in Gemencheh by 688 votes by MCA’s Hsiao Khang Chun, and caretaker Menteri Besar Aminuddin, beaten in Rantau by nearly 3,000 votes by UMNO’s Mohammad Fisa. Lim apologised to supporters and said he would remain in Jempol to continue serving despite the defeat.

DPM Zahid Visits Palace to Submit Three MB Candidates

Ahmad Zahid arrived at the Istana Besar at around 10pm and spent around one hour and 45 minutes with the ruler. On leaving at 12.45am he confirmed the submission of three BN names for the MB post and said the new MB should be given a reasonable period before any handover of the official residence was required, describing all the parties as friends who should treat each other with dignity.

MCA Wins Two Seats

MCA’s wins in Gemencheh and Lobak were the party’s strongest outcome in Negeri Sembilan for several cycles. Hsiao’s defeat of Lim was the night’s defining result, while Khor’s 444-vote margin in Lobak was the closest seat of the election.
