IU and Lee Jong-suk Break Up but Remain on Good Terms
(Seoul, July 10) Four years after going public as a couple, IU and Lee Jong-suk have announced the end of their relationship in a joint confirmation from both of their management agencies. The IU and Lee Jong-suk breakup, first reported by Korean entertainment outlet Dispatch, prompted both camps to release official statements acknowledging the split while emphasising that it had been handled with dignity and mutual respect.

The language of both statements was careful and warm, with each agency describing the split as the outcome of practical considerations rather than interpersonal conflict. The couple’s demanding and incompatible schedules had gradually reduced the frequency of their meetings, and after reflection, both parties came to the shared conclusion that they would be better placed to continue as senior and junior colleagues in the industry rather than as a romantic couple.
Throughout the four years they were together, the pair maintained a notably low-key public profile, rarely commenting on their relationship in interviews and allowing their agencies to handle any media inquiries. On one significant occasion, early in their public relationship, Lee Jong-suk spoke openly and emotionally about having held feelings for IU for a full decade, making his eventual happiness in the relationship all the more poignant to observers. That honesty and openness was reflected in the professional and gracious manner in which both sides handled the end of the relationship.

Both IU and Lee Jong-suk have full professional calendars ahead of them. IU has a significant solo concert at Goyang Stadium in September, with new music also in development. Lee Jong-suk is preparing for the release of his Disney+ drama and a subsequent new acting project. Fans have responded to the breakup with warmth and encouragement for both artists.
