PH Reduced To Eight Seats In Johor State Election Result 2026
(Johor Bahru, July 11) Pakatan Harapan’s performance in the Johor state election 2026 represented one of its most difficult nights in years, with the coalition reduced to just eight seats in the 56-member Johor state assembly and left as the sole opposition bloc after Perikatan Nasional and all other contesting parties failed to win a single seat.

DAP bore the brunt of the losses within the PH camp. The party, which had held 10 seats in the previous Johor state election, managed to retain only six — Bentayan, Penggaram, Mengkibol, Skudai, Senai and Stulang — while losing Jementah, Tangkak, Johor Jaya and Perling. The loss of these four seats to MCA and the MIC was particularly stinging given that several of them had been strongholds that DAP had cultivated over multiple election cycles.

The Johor state election result 2026 also exposed vulnerabilities in PH’s reach beyond the urban Chinese-majority core. PKR contested 20 seats but won only Puteri Wangsa, where its candidate Mahiaddin secured a majority of 5,744 votes. Amanah contested 19 seats but retained only Simpang Jeram, and even that result came down to a majority of just 170 votes.
DAP’s Kher Kae Choong conceded defeat in Perling on social media shortly after 10pm on polling night, leaving the party to reflect on an evening in which it lost four of the ten seats it had gone in to defend. The shift in Chinese voter support toward BN, as evidenced by MCA’s four-to-three edge over DAP in their seven direct head-to-head contests, will be an uncomfortable data point for PH strategists to digest as they plan for the next general election.
